French Open 2025 draw completed: Emma Raducanu, Jack Draper, Jannik Sinner learn first-round fates

The draw for the 2025 French Open is completed, as Emma Raducanu, Jack Draper and Jannik Sinner all learn their first-round fates and potential paths to glory.

The draw for the 2025 French Open men’s and women’s singles tournaments has been completed, and the likes of Emma Raducanu, Jack Draper and Jannik Sinner have learned their first-round fates.

The second Grand Slam of the year commences on May 25 and runs until June 8 on the clay courts of Roland-Garros, although qualifying is already well underway on the red dirt.

The draw ceremony took place on Thursday lunchtime, assisted by Paris Saint-Germain winger Ousmane Dembele, and Great Britain will have at least four players in the women’s singles tour.

One member of the quartet – Raducanu – will kick off her latest French Open campaign against China’s Wang Xinyu, who won the 2023 Roland-Garros women’s doubles title alongside partner Hsieh Su-Wei.

Should Raducanu come up trumps in that contest, the 2021 US Open champion will face a blockbuster second-round battle with current Roland-Garros holder Iga Swiatek, who begins the defence of her title against Rebecca Sramkova.

Raducanu heads to Roland-Garros after being knocked out of the Strasbourg Open last 16 by Danielle Collins, who coincidentally faces one of Raducanu’s compatriots first up in Jodie Burrage.

If the latter can stun the American in their opening battle, she will be on a collision course to meet world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the third round, as the top seed prepares to face Kamilla Rakhimova first up.

Meanwhile, Katie Boulter will face an as yet unknown qualifier for the chance to meet Australian Open champion Madison Keys in round two, while Sonay Kartal‘s French Open debut sees her take on Erika Andreeva first up.

On the men’s side, Indian Wells champion and Madrid Open runner-up Draper enters the French Open as the fifth seed, and his first-round opponent will be Italian world number 67 Mattia Bellucci.

Victory for Draper in that battle could precede a mouthwatering second-round showdown with home favourite Gael Monfils, and the British number one’s quarter-final opponent could be none other than top seed Sinner.

The world number one – who finished as runner-up at the Italian Open on his first tournament back since a doping suspension – has been drawn to face the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in his opening showdown.

Elsewhere, Draper’s countryman Jacob Fearnley will enjoy a blockbuster French Open debut match against Stan Wawrinka, the 40-year-old three-time Grand Slam champion who conquered Roland-Garros in 2015.

Fearnley could then face an all-British third-round tie with Cameron Norrie, but the former Wimbledon semi-finalist has been dealt a tricky opening battle against Daniil Medvedev, whom he recently lost to in Rome.

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is up against Japanese veteran Kei Nishikori, while Novak Djokovic’s quest for Grand Slam singles title number 25 commences against Mackenzie McDonald of the USA.
