According to Europe’s largest newspaper, Sergio Perez has secured a deal to return to Formula 1 with Cadillac in 2026.
The unofficial news conspicuously follows Formula 1’s recent three-year contract extension with the organisers of the Mexican Grand Prix, covering 2026 to 2028. This timeframe aligns with strong rumours in the Miami Grand Prix paddock about the duration of Perez’s reported new contract with Cadillac, set to enter F1 as the eleventh team in 2026.
Just days ago, Perez’s primary sponsor, Carlos Slim—a member of Mexico’s wealthiest family—suggested the 35-year-old was seeking “something that can excite him and that can be a challenge for him.”
The six-time grand prix winner, who was dropped by Red Bull at the end of 2024, is currently in Miami, where he owns a residence. Coinciding with his presence, Cadillac is hosting a “red carpet” event on Saturday night, amid speculation that the team’s 2026 F1 car livery may be unveiled.
Germany’s Bild newspaper, the highest-circulation publication in Europe, stated with confidence, “We have learned that the (Cadillac) deal with the Mexican has been finalised for months.”
Journalist Enrico Ahlig, reporting from Miami, added, “Sergio Perez brings experience and sponsorship power—exactly what a new factory team needs. During his time at Red Bull, he showed that, under the right conditions, he can even win races.”
